Staying Alive: Exploring Metabolism Using HHMI BioInteractive Resources
This workshop will be offered on Thursday, March 14, from 6:30–8:00PM EASTERN. Note that the workshop time is in US Eastern time zone. Please verify the corresponding time in your local area.
Students consistently wrestle with how to visualize metabolic processes. This workshop will equip participants with impactful teaching and learning resources that will enhance their methods for teaching metabolism. The workshop incorporates BioInteractive’s Scientist at Work video The Science of an Extreme Animal Athlete as an engaging introduction that helps students appreciate the applicability and significance of metabolism to real-world situations. This resource is coupled with the Biomolecules on the Menu Click & Learn activity to expand on the cellular bioenergetics of metabolism. Together these activities elucidate how energy is obtained, utilized, and stored. Participants will explore best practices for connecting the different components of metabolism to facilitate student comprehension. The workshop will involve blending multimedia resources with hands-on learning activities to create a more engaging and effective learning experience.
