
Jason Crean
Jason is a content developer who taught biology at the high school level for 25 years and higher education for 15 years. Though he has a graduate degree in biology, his doctoral work focused on changing teacher attitudes toward the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) through immersive professional learning.
Jason was a BioInteractive Ambassador for 10 years, creating classroom resources and professional learning experiences for educators. He also led the NGSS Biology Storylining Working Group, a collaborative project that resulted in the Illinois Biology Storylines curriculum, which is now used across the US and internationally.
Jason has been recognized for his work in science education with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching from President Obama in 2009; the Golden Apple Award; awards from the National Association of Biology Teachers and the American Association for the Advancement of Science; and, most recently, the 2020 Distinguished Teaching Award from the National Science Teaching Association.
