
Lilliam Casillas Martinez

Lilliam Casillas Martinez is a first-generation Latina professor at the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao. Her research focuses on microbial mats, including their use as educational tools in undergraduate courses and laboratories, and she has received multiple awards for her contributions to undergraduate research in microbiology. Casillas Martinez also works to foster culturally sensitive and inclusive practices. She leads the Puerto Rico Outstanding Undergraduate Diversified (PROUD) program, which trains Latinx faculty in inclusive excellence strategies, and has proposals, studies, and publications that promote the inclusion of Latinas, Black Latinx, and first-generation undergraduates from low-income homes in STEM fields.
