Description

This interactive module connects to an online citizen science platform for identifying animals in photos collected by trail cameras in Darién and Soberanía National Parks in Panama.

These national parks are home to one of the remotest tropical forests on the planet, and a critical ecosystem for the jaguar. Scientists are using trail cameras in Darién and Soberanía National Parks to study jaguars and their prey, as part of ongoing conservation efforts. These cameras are equipped with motion sensors that snap photos when an animal moves in front of them. The trail cameras have collected thousands of photos (and counting), and scientists need help in identifying the animals.

Students using WildCam Darién to see and identify the animals captured in these photos contribute to the parks’ research.
