Spreadsheet Tutorial 1: Formulae, Functions, and Averages
In this activity, students use the built-in functions in Excel or Google Sheets to calculate the mean and median. Students apply what they learned to a dataset beak measurements of Galapágos finches.
The activity serves as an introduction to spreadsheet programs. It describes the basic organization of a worksheet, how to organize and format data, how to perform simple mathematical calculations, how to use built-in mathematical functions, and how to select and manipulate a range of numbers.
You may download the Excel version of the activity or access the Google Sheets version.
