I have taught IB Biology and Environmental Systems at Meridian World School in Round Rock, Texas, for the past 5 years. I have also been a regular adjunct assistant professor in the Southwestern University Biology Department in Georgetown, Texas, since 2013. I love that BioInteractive resources incorporate new and relevant scientific discoveries while allowing flexibility to accommodate different class formats and student learning needs. What excites me as an educator is that moment when students realize that science is more than a bag of facts to memorize. When students are curious, they forget to worry about what they don’t know. I am continually inspired by unexpected insights that come from student light-bulb moments or from surprises in the laboratory. When I am not teaching or tinkering with my microscope, I can be found wandering the trails with my camera, my kids, and my beloved dog, Maya.
