Chris Monsour
During my 23 years as a biology teacher at Columbian, I have taught AP biology, anatomy and physiology, environmental science and oceanography, as well as classes in biology and environmental science at Heidelberg College. Throughout my teaching career, I feel I've modeled how science is practiced by bringing my personal science experiences back to my classroom. I spent a month on a research vessel in Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument with NOAA as the Teacher at Sea and have traveled the world with Earth Expeditions, an organization that engages people with grassroots conservation and sustainability projects. I've also built relationships with science organizations dedicated to improving science education and inquiry, including the National Association of Biology Teachers, where I've served as a board member, the director of NABT's Bio Club High School Program, and now as the president. My best professional learning experiences have been as a BioInteractive Ambassador. HHMI has allowed me to network with high school and undergraduate educators.
